*To register a Painted Desert Sheep, Registration Photographs must show more than one color, with one color being white, and sometimes, unfortunately, the color is so minimal that photographs can not pick up the second color. Also, sometimes the Mouflon crosses that produce Painted Desert Sheep will also produce solid black sheep or solid white sheep.  Even proper Painted Desert Sheep can produce solid black or solid white sheep or even sheep with brown and black coloring and no white color.  If both parents are registered Painted Desert Sheep a hardship registration is granted.

The solid black sheep are called Black Hawaiians while the solid white ones can be considered Texas Dall; however, some folks who breed these sheep keep their flocks of Texas Dall and Black Hawaiians "pure" by not permitting the sheep with known recent potential to produce spots to be introduced into their flock.  Therefore, Rafter SB will consider solid sheep with known recent potential to produce spots due to parentage as Unregistered Painted Desert Sheep.

Why keep the unregistered Painted Desert Sheep? Because the solids or minimal colored sheep can help you produce sometimes the most colorful painted sheep!  That is one reason why raising Painted Desert Sheep is so much fun -

you never know what colors you are going to end up with!
